If you use one packet in the bag you will be able to prepare 2 1/2 cups of soup, serving 2-3 people or using both packets 4 1/2 cups of soup, serving 4-6 people. We did all of our tasting and testing using water but you may add other ingredients as desired such as self-made or purchased flavored cooking stock, sautéed meat vegetable chunks and herbs and spices. See RECIPES for one of our favorites. Organic beans, peas and lentils (legumes) were also selected for this soup base because most medical personnel, medical institutions and health organizations have recommended to us, their patients, and the general public the consumption of more legumes as an excellent, non-fat source of protein and fiber. The dried soup is named 20 Minute 14 Organic Bean Soup Base even though there is a combination of 6 organic beans, 3 organic peas and 5 organic lentils. The dried soup is called a soup base because seasonings, vegetables, and other ingredients may be added to your personal tastes, even though a package of this Soup Base prepared with water makes a complete soup with a sweet and slightly nutty taste. Several months of intense research and testing resulted in the final combination of beans, peas, and lentils. We have packaged this product dry because it now has a very stable, long shelf life. The combination of ingredients was selected based on size, taste, color, texture, cooking properties and consistent available from the organic growers. It was necessary for us to assure all of the individual ingredients would be available year round in the same size, form, and cost. It has also been important to assure that the growers of these organic ingredients will be able to maintain their "organic grower" certification over time. Growers were selected because of the longevity on their farms and commitment to organic growing. Visit us again for links to our grower, which will be added to our website very soon.
